Basic Programming

How can you learn to do the things you like to do on Computers

Give class overview - You will learn how to create basic programs using two different tools. One Game Maker ( a drag and drop game making programming environment ) and one is real programming environment called REAL basic. This is object oriented downside Visual basic

How does a bunch of computer programming statements get transformed into a running application?
- On a high level
  - Editor or IDE (Inteactive Development Environment) is where you enter your source code-> this is your programming statements - These statements adhere to strict programming rules (Remember the computer is dumb and can only do what it is told)
  - Compiler -> Looks for errors
    - Parses and checks for syntax errors - Parse -In computer science and linguistics, parsing, or, more formally, syntactic analysis, is the process of analyzing a text, made of a sequence of tokens (for example, words), to determine its grammatical structure with respect to a given (more or less) formal grammar. Parsing is also an earlier term for the diagramming of sentences of natural languages. - Syntax - is the study of the principles and rules for constructing sentences in languages
  - If no errors a runnable program is created.
- A Computer Language - A vocabulary and set of grammatical rules for instructing a computer to perform specific tasks. Each language has a unique set of keywords (words that it understands) and a special syntax for organizing program instructions. You must adhere to the defined vocabulary and syntax or you will get an error. All programming languages are fully defined in the help section of their build environment. webopedia
- Whether in GameMaker or REALBasic you must adhere to the Programming Language rules. GM is easier because it is harder to break the rules due to its' drag and drop technology, but you will learn RB. I guarantee it.

What is a computer Application -Application software, also known as software application, application or app, is computer software designed to help the user to perform a singular or multiple related specific tasks. Typical examples are word processors, spreadsheets, media players and database applications.

What is a computer Operating System (OS) - Basically it is the program that runs the computer that allows the other programs and peripherals to run.
