REALBasic

Working with Program Data & Conditionals

Broad Concept: Engineering design involves practical problem solving, research, development, and invention and requires designing, drawing, building, testing and redesigning.

To follow the flow of conditional statement execution

Review Programs are made up of
1. List of instructions
2. Conditionals /if
3. Repeating instructions /loops
4. Breaking things into smaller pieces - problem decomposite - Methods

Lecture
- To write computer programs one must understand
  - flow of execution
  - Conditionals - how they are structured (if then else end if) and how they alter execution
  - and Boolean data types and simple math
First go through the calculator example without conditionals and walk through the code execution on the board. I will present its execution on the board and via the computer.
Add the conditionals and walk through it by hand on the board
Point out how the Boolean logic works and extend the problem a bit

Now - Check for understanding by breaking students up into groups of 2 to 3 have them solve by hand a BlackJack problem

Solutions will be written on the board

if time more checking for understanding (because I'm sure there isn't much understanding yet) and ask a few students to solve in groups some new easy problems

This class will continue onto next block and will culminate in them programming a very simple Black Jack game.

A quiz on flow of execution and conditional.
